The body of this 1936 Packard 12 Model 1407 Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton was built in house. The use of custom coachbuilders were in sharp decline as the Depression rolled on and to keep the company profitable with declining sales (although the body was designed by Dietrich). With only 362 model 12s sold in 1936, Packard could no longer afford to just sell chassis. This sport phaeton was built in the 175" chassis and was powered by a 175 HP 7.3 liter V12. By now, the 12 series had 4 wheel vacuum-assisted drum brakes and with all the luxury amenities it was said to be the best driving car among its competitors.
This Danbury Mint model is, IMHO, the high watermark of their diecast models.
