In 1960 when I was 6 years old, my Dad built this red Monogram 32 Sport Coupe for me. At the time I was collecting (playing with) AMT promos. This blew me away, it was coolest thing I’d ever seen! He built this and the Black Widow pickup. A year or so later my younger brother got into my room and played with both of them and broke them up. Dad tried to fix them, but they weren’t the same and I was devastated. As I started building my own models they both got thrown into parts boxes. After I moved out my Mom saved one of those boxes and gave it to me when she sold the house after Dad passed. It sat in storage until my kids grew up. I’ve been collecting diecast cars for 40 years and after I retired, got back into building kits. I pulled the box out and the 32 was in there. It had so much sentimental value to me I decided to restore it back to how Dad had built it. It was missing some parts, so I had to find a parts car on EBay (big $s!). I got it restored and had what was left of the parts car, so I decided to build my on version. Bought a reissued Black Widow kit for the front axle and wheels and tires and other parts from EBay. The flames are left overs from a 32 Ford kit my son built. So, father and son builds, built 60+ years apart.
what a wonderful story, thanks for sharing it, and the outcome is so special
A great story, I bet all of us old guys can relate to it in one way or another. I love seeing those old school models, especially when they are such outstanding, understated, period perfect builds! Thanks for the cool memories.
