I’ve always loved the ‘33 Ford Tudor sedan body style, so when the FM Dillinger car came up on eBay for a very nice price, I jumped on it (figure of speech only!). I had never done any research on the actual car so I decided to Google, since I already knew that the FM Bonnie and Clyde was way off. I haven’t received the actual model yet so I’m attaching a stock photo of the Model along with an auction photo of the 1/1 actual car. Unless Mr. Dillinger had another ‘33 that I couldn’t find online, this one is way off too. Notice that the actual vehicle was a standard sedan (4-door), and was actually a police car that John stole to make a getaway. Another difference that shouts out is the red wheels with half the spokes missing, instead of the standard black. I’ll be glad to display the model, it looks very cool to my eye, just not at all accurate. Any thoughts?
Congrats on getting a real nice FM '33 Tudor! I love this model. I display mine with all the 'gangster' goodies next to FM's other notorious models.
You're right about the Bonnie & Clyde car - it was a 1934 Ford Model 40 B Fordor Deluxe sedan. FM took liberties with their model. I did some research on the real Dillinger cars that were used in his illegal activities. The "Hoosier Hoodlum" did, in fact steal a '33 Ford and it was, like the one you show here, a four door sedan with black wire wheels.
But if he had the chance to steal one like FM depicts - rest assured; he would have! LOL!
@geoff-jowett I totally agree with you on the DM ‘33’s Geoff, they are little gems. I put the ‘31 maroon coupe7in the same class with all of the delicate little details that make them stand out. My collection has almost entirely turned around the last few months with my heightened appreciation in the ‘30’s and early ‘40’s Fords. My point with the Dillinger car was that it was so unlike the vehicle it was supposed to represent. I’m a stickler for authenticity, but that being said, I’m pretty sure I’m going to love it!
