Produced between 1934 and '36, The Mercedes-Benz 500K "Spezial Roadster" (W29) was the epitome of personal luxury and performance of its day. With their 3.8 liter straight 8 now displacing 5.0 liters a Roots supercharger was added that yielded 160 HP and 100 mph capability that probably had their owner champing at the bit for the completion of the Autobahn.The 4 speed transmission was semi-automatic allowing shifting between 3rd and 4th without the clutch. A rumble seat was added offering room for two 'mother-in-laws', as the Germans called them. The long wheel base and two seat configuration allowed both the engine and radiator to be set behind the front axle. Sumptuous leather and wood trim throughout the interiors. Out of 350 500K models built, only 25 of the 'spezial roadsters' were built.
Models by CMC:
What a stunning model, and pics! Took me years to find one, finally grabbing the red version here on the local ebay. Thanks Rich
The white top up roadster with white interior (impeccably photographed by Rich above) was made by Vanbo with the CMC tooling. CMC made the white top up model with red interior that was a limited edition. Regardless the Vanbo white version is rarer than the CMC version. Same CMC/Vanbo pair was made in black too. The zinc yellow Special roadster was also made by Vanbo and not CMC, although CMC is claiming they made one yellow color sample, which they didn't even know about (I don't buy it, it is probably fake), link below.
"The CMC Mercedes-Benz 500K Roadster in 1:24 scale, M-002G (yellow) in the original CMC packaging with CMC certificate is so far unknown in the CMC history." The only clue is the yellow sticker, it is a BS if you ask me ... I can easily fake a second one.
You're right on the money Chav. Here's the yellow on made by Vanbo:The white top up roadster with white interior (impeccably photographed by Rich above) was made by Vanbo with the CMC tooling. And we cannot forget the red CMC Roadster:
A model I regret not buying when it first came out.
Gorgeous model Rich. BTW, I am impressed with how you are able to include the words mother-in-law and fun in one sentence.
@jack-dodds It's a German thing, so I've read.
