Here you go Steve!
I’ve always been a huge fan of 1950s and 60s British sports cars, Triumphs, MGs, Sunbeam, Jaguar, Austin Healey and A.H. Sprite, Lotus etc. They were very popular on Australian roads at the time. While I have a couple of nice 1/43s, I’m really pleased the kits give me a chance to add some examples in 1/24, 1/25. No motor in the TR3 unfortunately but highly detailed otherwise, including rubber interior parts. However the windscreen is a very poor fit. Move it further out and the wipers don’t fit, move it back and the rearview mirror doesn’t fit. And the rubber piping doesn’t line up with the chrome side supports. I’ve done what I can to accommodate all parts but it means the whole windscreen sits a little high. I have an MGB and a couple of Lotuses to complete soon. And there appear to be others available including an Austin Healey and AH Sprite, Sunbeam Tiger and Morgan.
Beautiful model Geoff. Like you I always liked the English Sports Cars of the 50s and 60s.In 1961 I bought a 1956 Healey which I loved dearly but then along came time to do my military obligation and the car had to go. Several years ago I bought a 1/43 kit from KR models in England and built a miniature of my late car in Old English White with a red interior and tonneau. I would love to have another 1/1 Healey but I'm afraid I no longer fit in those cars.
Geoff, your painting technique is much improved and the TR3 looks terrific! My brother-in-law has a '58 Austin-Healey 100-6 BN4 which is a blast to drive. I bet the TR3 is similar.
thank you gentlemen. The Austin Healey, IMO, would have to be the most beautiful design amongst the group. The kit looks very old, and from what I've seen of pics of the parts in an open box, pretty rough. Still its such a great car I will get one and give it a go.
@pete-rovero thanks Pete, really pleased you noticed the paint work. First job using your light spray to tacky method, thanks again. I've done it again this morning with the first coat on the GTX in orange and it looks even better.
