those of you who have DMs 59 Pontiac Bonneville can u recall if there was a whitish protective strip covering the hood ornament? My very expensive model arrived today and my first thought is it is missing but it does feel like there maybe something underneath there. I'm hesitant to even try to remove something that may not be there for fear of damaging the model further and affecting refunds.

Geoff, it appears that your Pontiac's hood emblem is missing.  There would have been a clear strip covering it when shipped from Danbury Mint.  Mine looks like its loose at the bottom. These are pretty fragile. Check the box, maybe you'll find it there.

Sorry to hear that.  I've got a couple of models where the emblems have just disappeared and I have no idea what happened to them.  I prefer the tampo printed emblems more, at least they don't fall off.

Had a thought.  Perhaps you can find a scale decal that you can use in it's place.  Check eBay for someone selling a decal sheet from a 1/25 scale GTO.  If it has the arrowhead emblems you're in business.

thanks Pete, appreciate your efforts. I'll give it some thought. Bit dejected about the whole thing at the moment. Obviously a high demand model that I'd been chasing for a while. Paid a bit overs too.

My ‘59 Bonnie also arrived with no front emblem Geoff. I fretted for some time, looked at the models that did have the emblem and looked online for decals. The ones that I found were fairy expensive and weren’t exactly correct so I held off. The more I look at the models that did have the emblem, the less concerned I am. There is still the small silver outline and the correct emblem seems a little too large. Basically I’m good with it and there’s no hurry for me to do anything for now. I’ve seen so many online without the emblem, or with the emblem partially pulled off that I’m wondering if it may have been eliminated at one time.

Thanks Kevin, and again Pete, but I'll pretty sure I'll return it. If I'd scored it for a bargain price, yep I'd keep it and add a decal, but as I paid, or chose to pay, top dollar I really want it to be as perfect as possible.

@geoff-jowett You can try contacting the seller and ask for a reduced price and partial refund.  After all, he can't sell it as MIB and get top dollar with the emblem missing.

Mine was on there when I bought it new from DM, but disappeared somewhere along the line. I made my own out of BMF. It isn't perfect, but I think it's fairly close......lol. And it stuck a lot better.😊

Geoff, just wanted to let you know that there is no script on the left rear fender either. There are 2 small paint chips on the bottom edge of the hood that could be repaired (this is how I recognized the auction). You can at least ask for discount, this model was not in mint condition. Hopefully the seller is cooperative.

Good Catch CHAV!  I probably would have missed those as well, when you get all excited about winning a bid on Ebay.
