How many just sit and stare...........................................
at these chromed idols during the course of an evening? If you answer yes you do, would you be so kind as to dare a guess at how many hours a week you get to or are allowed to? If you are really feeling brave what is the atmosphere around you when you are committing this unforgivable act of self indulgence? Do you have a special lighting arrangement that shines down on the cars? Perhaps your favorite libation at your side? I have always felt that no one sits and stares at their cars on turntables under plexiglass and enjoys them the way I do. It just amazes me that having fallen in love with model cars way back when friction motors were hot, that I have actually gotten to watch the evolution of one of my favorite things in life. What a revolution it has been. I am not alone am I? Prove me wrong guys. Tell me your favorite scenereo for "private viewing time " and I'll tell you mine. Well..... maybe. I probably wouldn't tell Jerry Gorsuch though. Hee Hee.
PS. Don't tell me to get a life. I already have one. I just love the cars.
I am VERY lucky...
I work from home, and I have my collection (400+ models) in my office. I get to view it all day. I have my 1/43 models to my left, my 1/24 and 1/18 models to my right, and my 1/10 motorcycles behind me.
I look at them every day...
...I don't work at home but I do have a home office, which is where my collection is displayed.
I spend time there almost every night after dinner while my wife is watching TV and I've walked the dog. Or on a sunday afternoon like now. Whether I'm on the PC, paying the monthly bills, doing some work from home, or doing my taxes (today's mission) I always find time to look at the cars, often with a Jack Daniels on the rocks at my side.
HEY,Jim, Watch IT..... Being retired and raising 5 of my Grandkids, I am usually busy with the kids (mainly chauffeur) during the days, early evenings and weekends. BUT, after bedtime, and an occasional favorite TV program, I do view my collection with my favorite Vodka libation. My collection is in curios with glass shelves and mirrors and halogen spots for illumination. All in a room with my confuser desk and my own TV (for watching SPEED). YEA, I spend a lot more time dreaming about having a real 1:1 car of some sort or another than I should or my wife thinks I should........ Mow What??? Weed What??? Shovel the Snow???? Why, it'll go away in the spring....LOL
Every day I stop to admire these little gems. I have all my models on display in a wall unit with glass shelves, mirrored backs and bottom shelves, and Xenon lighting (cooler than halogen) and the wall unit is in my living room so I walk past it several times a day. I often stop to admire them, and get great enjoyment out of every last one. So far I "only" have about 75 models, but the collection just keeps growing. Thanks for the question Jim!
I have 36 sitting in DM 10 model displays right on my desk an two more displays over the computer screen so I am surrounded most of the day. I usually change one display every week so the cars get to have new friends once in a while. I have about 700 so it is difficult to visit each one every day but they are all visited regularily. ๐ก o:)
Good one Jerry. And you should be commended for being such a caring grandpa. Keep it up and enjoy your private time with the cars. What kind of Vodka? I prefer Absolute. It may be a little old school but I always graduate. Hee hee
Hey Pete, it's nice to know I have company
John, the die-cast gods have truly blessed you. Enjoy and thanks for responding.
I like Gray Goose but can't afford it....

Another Wodka I like is UV Green. It is sour apple flavored.
Drink it 'neat' and it'll pucker you up real nice.....LOL
Peter - I'm curious. Where did you get your Xenon lighting??
I do it more than I'd care to admit. LOL!
All of my diecast are in my downstairs office where my computer is. So I get to stare at them a lot. Not only do I stare at them a lot, but I have this habit of rearranging their locations in my large curio based on which one (or ones) I am lusting over the most at the time. This week it is my new '71 Boss 351. I have a feeling it will stay in its heralded spot for some time. ๐
Hey Bob, I know what you mean......................................
I do the same "rotation shuffle" about every other week.
When I know it's about time for a new one to arrive, I will put out the cars that I want to display with the new one and leave the most predominate case empty and in wait for that new favorite one . Is that sick or what. It's this little ritual, right of passage thing. If the new image is only average, it's a one Absolute/rocks night. If the car is a stunner, I have been known to freshen my drink.
