I've just relocated my curios to the basement (not my idea). We have a new sump pump, new drain tiles, and no cracks in the poured concrete walls. I have a portable dehumidifier running. The basement is not finished. I've started putting my cars in the cabinets; I'm in the process of sealing the cabinets to hopefully eliminate dust. Is there anything I'm missing? What would be the ideal humidity to maintain? Thanks, Tom
40-60% seems to work around here. Seattle is always wet. I have little Rash on my cars
I have mine in glass cases which I have added a thin foam sealer tape around the doors so theuy are mostly dust free. Read that as I have to dust each cases cars about once a year. The average temperature is 65 to 68 degrees in my car display area. I have a couple of cases where the average temp is 70-72 and no difference so somewhere around what you are comfy at will work for your cars. PS I don't have any Rust with all the Rain in the Northwest. I have just over 4,000 cars on display 98% are Diecast and now more Resin cars are comming I have a 53 Chevrolet Pick Up which has diecast rot or Rash and a Metropolitan (Turq) which there seems to be a lot of those with Rash. So 2 cars with Rash but mine are all out of their boxes.
Tom, there are just a few things you are forgetting...
1) An HD big screen TV
2) Adjustable, vibrating loungers
3) A refrigerator full of your favorite beer
I know there are more things to add, but just for starters for your future ManCave! Enjoy!
Hi John, Yeah, a Man Cave!!! That's the ticket!!
Thanks, Dave. That seems about right for Buffalo as well. I haven't found any rash yet, with about 40 cars taken out and placed in the cabinets. I'm also using foam to seal the cabinets. Years ago, I did have a large blister on the roof of the DM '53 Chevy pickup. DM was nice enough to replace it after at least 5 years, even though I just asked if they knew of anyone who could fix it. I'm enjoying rediscovering my diecasts. Even the older ones are beautiful. I'm continually blown away.

Paint rash has nothing to do with humidity..............
and very few models from the mints are free of it from time no matter the climatic conditions.
That's Joe Kelly Jr.'s car room!
You are correct, sir!
I keep my Toy Room at 60% and it seems to have worked fine for that past few years.
Well when you come out this way the Door is OPEN always fun to Play Cars with someone who knows something about them. John Mayenberg came by last year from Alaska we had a great time for pretty much the day. He is a First Mate on the Alaska Ferry System & was in Seattle getting a Knee replacement. He said he would be back when he started the Bellingham to Anchorage Run so I expect a phone call sometime. The e-mail/Phone# in the registry.
David...I might be in Seattle this summer. How far is Issaquah, WA from Seattle?
