I want my old Belvedere Back.

Richard Petty's 1964 #43 Plymouth Belvedere was no longer in existence, so Petty, looking for a new project for his museum, decided to recreate the car as close to original as possible. He located and purchased two rolling chassis sans drive trains and interiors with one having a reasonably decent body. In a miracle barn find. a guy found an original 426 Hemi track engine in a crate. I had the 2X4 bbl setup with just an improper intake manifold. The buyer was shocked to see the block stamped "11" and "PE" for Petty Enterprise and knew he had a Holy Grail. I don't know what Petty paid that buyer for it but it took a bit of back and forth negotiations to secure it. With all the major parts secured, Petty and his crew completed this historic car. The car was conceived in 1962 by Chrysler with the aim to win the 1964 Daytona race as a sales booster. #43 became the first track car to sport the new 426 Hemi V8 which turned out to be such a game changer that NASCAR banned it the following year.  At the '64 Daytona, Petty led a field of 4 to a 1,2,3,5 win which gave Chrysler/Plymouth the sales boost they had planned on.  In 1966, the Hemi was allowed again as the street Hemi A102 was offered throughout the Plymouth and Dodge lineup to meet NASCAR's rulings. On this tribute car's completion, it was displayed at the "Legends of NASCAR" exhibit at the National Automobile and Truck Museum in Auburn, Indiana. The 1964 lineup of Ford Galaxy, Mercury Marauder and Plymouth Belvedere/Sport Fury were, for me, some of the best designed cars of the '60s. I could never find a larger scale '64 Plymouth in stock form, but at least this Petty car was available. It was released in 1999 as a numbered LE by Racing Champions.
