It pretty much boils down to how much shelf space do you have.

I have many large boxes of 1/18 cars that are packed away in closets and now we're thinking about moving into my son's house to be nearer the horses.

We are over there every day now and go through a ton of gas and I could get a lot more done if we lived there.

This will further cut down on my space so I will only be displaying selected 1/24 cars at a given time.

1:24 - I don't have room for 1:18, nor was the detail there when I started.

I started with 1:18 and love them but have added 1:24 due to space considerations. Right now I still collect both scales.

I collect all scales to get the images I want. I'll admit that

I'm out of space in all scales and will have to go back and thin out some of the older models to make room for newer ones that have more detail. The early 1/18 scale definitely lacked detail as compared to 1/24 and 1/43 scales.

I started with Corvette promos and still have about 150 of them.

They are not displayed anymore as I became enthralled with 1:18 diecasts. Then, I bought my first FM Corvette and I love my 40+ collection of 1:24 diecast Corvettes.

The promo thing goes back to my youth when I first discovered them around 1957 or so. They still give me the warm fuzzies but I have no room to put them out. The promo has lost its luster with collectors for some reason. I think it has to do with the diecasts being so much nicer to look at.

Do any of the rest of you like promos?

My collection is primarily 1:18 but I love 1:24 too. But I like 1:24 not because of the size...

... but because I loved the image! If Danbury Mint produced models in 1:18, I would have purchased those. Between the two scales, I prefer 1:18 but I love my 1:24 because of the quality of the images and the interest in a particular car. I've even admired images in 1:43 but I'm purposely staying away from that scale so that I can have more control of my spending addiction.

I've always admired the collectors who began their collections with a well thought out plan and direction. The simplicity of a single direction seems very appealing. Looking back on my hodge podge mixture of different scales I've often wondered if at the beginning of my collecting, would I enjoy it even more if I designed and executed a plan that included a single scale? It's too late now because I have models ranging from 1:43 up to 1:6 scale. I love the vast majority of them and have few regrets.

Marlowe, a spread of scales allows for the collector's diversity of interest and your collection demonstrates exactly that.

I'd stick with 1:24 due to space restrictions.

I started with 1/43's then 1/18's but unfortunately at the time they weren't in to the era of interest - so I switched - getting hooked on DM/FM precision - 1/18s also take up too much space

1/24th but would give serious consideration to 1/43rd because of space.
