I just watched the episode of "Iron Resurrection" where Joe Martin & Co took a rusted hulk of a '36 Hudson pickup and turned it into a beautiful restomod. The first thing I thought of was how are the going to replicate that unusual and intricate grill that's half painted and half brightwork. The show never focused on that element but they absolutely nailed it. FM's 1936 Hudson 8 Terraplane convertible is quite a well done model although I wasn't crazy about the over-scaled fabric they used for the functioning top. I display the model in the top down position w/o the tonneau cover and I wish it came in a more subdued finish rather than the cherry red. They did do an LE in silver but that didn't turn me on either. I like the look of that chopped appearing windscreen but the styling of the grill I find fascinating to behold. Here's Joe Martin's pickup:
Here's the Franklin Mint model:
That's beautiful Rich, the model AND the truck.
Rich I display my silver one the same way as it's by far the more realistic to the 1/1. I got the silver one because it looked more like a thirties color to me but neither color would have been my choice. Kudos to FM for doing this model both for the subject matter and folding top.
I don't collect many 1930s models but I sure do like this Terraplane. Brooklin make a nice convertible and sedan in 1/43.
Hard to find in mint condition and at a reasonable price now. Red would be my preferred choice. Pushing the top down to its fully 'crunched' position has worked well. Great pics as always Rich, thanks. Hopefully over the 'technical' pic posting issues you were having?
Great pics of the model and the truck!
I recall when TFM released the Terraplane and all the D4C discussion regarding the folding top. I could never warmup to the Terraplane in any scale and for me the folding top was a total turnoff.
