Back in the days of Brylcreem, duck tails and Lucky Strikes rolled up in your T-shirt sleeve, I was reading Hot Rod comics about teens racing their cars... many times to get the poodle skirt, saddle shoes wearing girl so you could take MaryLou to the malt shop. More than not, the hero of the story would beat the town tough ( a meaner version of "the Fonz") in his '49 Olds Rocket 88. It was a sleek little 'sleeper' with that really cool ringed globe on its nose. Danbury Mint did a nice job replicating that formidable post war street racer.
Absolutely one of my favorite Danbury Mint models. I like it first and foremost because it's an Oldsmobile, but I also like it because it was an "every day car", meaning it's not a hardtop or convertible. Generally speaking it's not a car that you would normally expect to see as a collector car today, had any survived. DM just nailed the beauty of this Rocket 88 to diecast model perfection. GREAT PHOTOS!
