The nascent Mercedes Auto Works founded by Emil Jellenik of Daimler sought to produce not only a powerful car, but one that was also user friendly. Hence the Simplex was born in 1902, designed by Wilhelm Maybach. By 1904, the engine was now developing 60 HP and the car was bodied in a sedan or open touring form. This 65 HP sedan was built for Jellenik in 1909:
Here's another style designed for the more adventurous endurance driving.
This Franklin Mint model is a 1904 40/45 Simplex Tourer with twin chain drive that was manufactured up to 1910. The folded top in the rear only provided shade for the women who sat in the rear seat.
I absolutely love the brass era. FM did theres so well. Thanks Rich
This is my 1/24 brass era/early mid 1920s display case. There's a couple of others about too. For anyone who wants to have a go at the kits, the Ukrainian firm ICM make a quality range of brass era Model Ts, Renault taxis and others.
I also have some beautiful 1/43s. This Minichamps 1902 Panhard & Levassor Type B1 Rear-Entrance Tonneau is an absolute prized model in my collection. Imagine what Rich's photos would make of it!? 😀
At 'the other end of the scale' there's FMs nice 1903 Ford Model A in 1/16.
Great models guys, AND pics as well. Earlier than I collect, but I still appreciate them. 💯😊
