I have mixed feelings about this DM 1936 Hudson "8" convertible. Firstly, I wish they hadn't finished it in brilliant red or the other silver option. I would have preferred something a bit more period and subdued. This model was a very ambitious undertaking especially with a working cloth convertible top and actually stitched leather upholstery. The upholstery winds up looking a bit out of scale but I applaud the effort. The top mechanism works OK, but hte fabric doesn't quite look right to my eyes, nor does the bulky tonneau cover so I display the top folded up and uncovered as it probably would be on a warm sunny day. What I'm really impressed with is the little things. The scripts and badging look great. The incredibly distinctive and ornate grill is spectacularly well done as is the space age looking hood ornament. What really tickles the hell out of me are the windshield wipers. In the early days wipers were just molded into the windscreen glazing. Later, separate on piece wipers (usually in a rubbery plastic) gave more veracity to the model. On this model, DM actually provided a pair of wipers with a parts count! They look great and, yes, it's just a little thing, I know.
Rich, Beautiful photos of a car that I missed.
Excellent critique Rich. Nice photography of an impressive model. I agree about the colour choice.
@david-green +1 David. I bought the silver one as it came closer, to my eye, of a period correct color. I also display mine with the top down without the cover.
you pics really bring it alive Rich. The wipers are amazing.
