When I received the original brochure for DANBURY MINT'S 1953 BUICK SKYLARK Convertible in this beautiful period correct BLUE color, it was way back in 1993. My diecast 1:24 collection was in its infancy, as this Buick would be only the 6th car for me. I was still discovering the mints and what they were offering. I know that by todays standards this model has old tooling, but it has stood the test of time and has always remained beautiful. I also eventually added the Maroon repaint and also the Red one, love them both, but the Blue one is my favorite color. Maybe because it was the first one I got.
Some REAL '53 BUICK SKYLARK Facts:
Called the Skylark Sport Convertible it was Buick's most expensive car for 1953. It carried the same 188-horsepower V-8 engine that was used in the Roadmaster, and had the Dynaflow transmission as standard equipment. Also included as standard were Power Brakes and Power Steering. To own one brand new you'd have had to shell out $5,000 and you'd have been one of the rare folks that had one of the only 1,690 that were produced. Also it should be noted that Buick's famous portholes were NOT on the front fenders, making it even more distinctive as those portholes were Buick trademarks in this era.

It is still a great model. I was a member of DMs Preview Society back then, so this was an automatic ship at that time. I got it pretty much when it was released. I can say, it was love at first sight. I had always been a fan of the '53 Buick and the Skylark was the best of the best in '53. All four of the Skylark models in my collection are among my favorites, but the blue is still at the top of that list.

@jcarnutz, I loved the "Preview Society" with Danbury. I became part of shortly after this Buick was released. And we are in agreement on all of the DM Buick's being winners. Like you, the Blue one is my favorite. Love your photo of it!
