While home from work for lunch on April 28, 2004 and eating my home-made split-pea soup with crackers, I opened the envelope containing this nifty brochure.
It was special for FOUR reasons.
1) It was a '49 Mercury
2) It was a Convertible
3) It was a Limited Edition (which always made it seem more special)
4) It was going to look great parked next to my '49 Mercury Coupes
But not mentioned above there was one more thing that was even more special (TO ME) about this exciting looking car. I'm doubting that most here don't know or if they did, they won't remember what that might be.
It was the exact same type of Mercury Convertible that was used in the 1949 BATMAN Movie Serial. And how was it used? Well just so happens that it was used by the Caped Crusader's alter-ego BRUCE WAYNE. Bruce would drive with the top down, but when he needed to switch to Batman, he'd put the top up and then change in to his Batman uniform. And suddenly it was "the Batmobile".
Being a lifelong "BATMAN" fan, and having those classic movie serials in my collection, seeing this DANBURY MINT "LE" '49 MERCURY CONVERTIBLE gave me goose-bumps! You know the rest of the story...I ordered it immediately and the wait began for it to arrive. The white box containing the car was on my front porch on July 5, 2004. It sits proudly in my shelf its all iconic glory and my special memory of it being Batman's car.

That's my favorite of the DM 49 Merc's. I really like the two-tone green coupe too! GREAT choice George!

THANKS TONY! The '49 Mercury body style is one of my favorites of any old car. All of the DM Mercury's are on my shelf.

I never got around to getting this one or the Green Coupe, I'm sure they're nice models since DM made them.
A pretty Mercury. Love the color combo.

The very reason I've been pointing in my "I'VE GOT MAIL!" offerings that when I received the brochure I ordered the car. Then I never had to say, "I never got around to getting this one or...".
Most times in the mints heyday's I had multiple cars on order. I remember one time I had 7 cars ordered at the same time. I wasn't going to risk not getting a car that was in my collecting criteria. Not saying this would have worked for everyone, just the way I did it.

George I'm impressed that you remember what you had for lunch on April 28, 2004 since I don't remember what I had for breakfast this morning. I too have all of the 49 Mercurys by DM including the two tone green and tan coupes.
