Exciting mailbox day! The Brochure revealed a car that when I was in high school I drooled over. Of all the magnitude of Muscle Cars that were new in late Sixties and 1970, none to my eyes were better looking and for that fact, just better, than an OLDSMOBILE. Ever since I was about 5 years old, I could and did rattle of the names and years of cars that I saw on the streets, and no matter how many cars I could see at one time, it was an Oldsmobile that I would see first. I just always loved Oldsmobile's.
So when DANBURY MINT announced this model, I got more giddy than usual when I'd get a Brochure in the mail. I ordered it immediately and remember thinking about it the rest of the day! I've often said that the anticipation and the wait for these little models to arrive is almost more fun than actually getting the model at my doorstep. For several days after ordering this model, I remember hoping, "today was the day" it would arrive! Upon getting it, I wasn't disappointed, it is beautiful. Later receiving Franklin Mint's release of this same car, I could see that Danbury Mint had missed the mark a little in the replication of the theirs just a bit, but being that it's an Oldsmobile, I've never minded. I LOVE IT!

FM definitely did a better job on this than DM. At least the brochure didn't deceive as it truly depicted the model as it is. As I display my models in plexiglass cases with a side view, it somewhat hides the front profile.

I agree with you. The Franklin version of this model is absolutely perfect in my opinion and one of favorite modes in my collection. I also have Franklin's two repaints in Black and Red. But the Gold one is my favorite.
To us who are in tune with how the cars should really look, we can see the flaws in some of the mints cars, and of course the Danbury Oldsmobile is one of them, but to an average car person, they don't pick up on such things.

Well put. I was never the biggest fan of the 442 but given the parameters you set forth here George, this one is pretty nice! Thanks for the "I've Got Mail" series!!
THANKS! I've tried to make all of contributions to the NEW board entertaining and pertain to what we all love most, CARS!
It's nice to know my "I'VE GOT MAIL" series and other car related stuff I've been sharing is appreciated.
