After waiting over 3 weeks, the 1965 Galaxie 4-door sedan finally arrived. Some things I like: The body is very well proportioned, and the stance is perfect. The paint is nicely applied and very smooth, and the "glass" is crystal clear. They really nailed the front end IMO. Some things I don't like: The window surrounds and side trim (except for the the door handles and windshield wipers) are silver paint, not plated. The taillights are painted, not red lenses. The interior is on par with a Sunstar model, highlights in silver paint, no chrome or carpeting and the chassis is plastic with minimal detail. It's a curbside model and has no opening features and the front wheels are not posable. And of course, the price. I paid $94 plus $30 shipping from Mexico. To me, it should cost about the price of shipping or maybe a little more, although it is a lovely model and the subject matter is non-existent in 1/24 scale. Following are pics of packaging and the model.
The model is held on the base with these triangular shaped screws which I've never seen before. A small flat blade screwdriver works to remove them.
The model also comes with a booklet on the history of the Ford Galaxie, which is in Spanish so I can't read it. Nothing the Google translate app can't handle!
Here's the model:
It's difficult to get good pictures of the interior because the side windows are in place, but you'll get the idea of the level of detail.
I think they took some creative license on the chassis with the exhaust system. This dual exhaust "trick" is seen on modern cars, but not an old Ford.
Here's some comparison pics using FM's '63 Impala Sport Coupe and Sunstar's '65 Impala SS, so scaling of the Ford looks accurate. Unfortunately, nothing opens on it unlike the $10 Sunstar.
Finally, the Ford is much nicer than a Sunstar model and the $10 Motormax below but is overpriced in the $100 range IMHO. But if it's a "must have" in your collection it's worth the price.
thats a great report and assessment, thanks Pete. I will grab one but wait until when and if I can find one at a much reduced price as I have to take into account around 30% increase because of the exchange rate. As mentioned I'm very keen to add cars seen on Australian roads from very early days to present. While Holdens dominated the market, UK, European and many US cars also sold well. This 4 door Ford was popular.
Thanks Pete, That's a great looking model and way cheaper than the Automodello '66 Galaxie which has no opening features. I have a couple of these like the MM Cadillac by Whitebox and also the '56 BelAir 4 door but I got both out of France in the $20 price range and $15 for shipping, I had to wait a little longer but for the prices I paid well worth it. The Caddy is detailed and the '56 is up for it. I now have the dark green Ford Maverick coming which I paid $15 plus shipping. I wanted it to go with my Nova and Duster. I figured since the NEO & Automodello models ARE static display models these are just fine as well especially for the price. JMHO though.
My father (a Ford guy) bought a '65 4 door poster in dark blue with the 352 4 bbl and it was the perfect unmarked cop car used by local and State Troopers. The rascal that I was back then, I bought a classic revolving "gumball machine" to mount on the dash and used it to scare the heck out of my buddies and speed down the shoulder of the highway during traffic jams when I was late for class. Soon, my father found it and it 'disappeared' without a word spoken. The NJ State Troopers had at least one of these with a 427 4 speed that I saw on the road and I was impressed!
Pete.....You seem to have regenerated this post without the input of a new response from you
...How is that done ?...Thanks,John
Hi JB. Actually, it was Geno that revived this topic by replying to it. I believe that's how it works.
LOL, yep, I'm the guilty party John. I love finding these different & unique models, especially if they come at a great price. Pete, glad you found a Maverick, I've always loved that bodystyle so it's a must have for me. There is a Maverick GT out there as well, basically the same model but I'm not paying $130 plus $40 shipping.
thank you Pete and Geno, for clearing up this mystery for me
It was the last word in the title :" IXO Mexican 1965 Ford Galaxie revisited "that threw me for a loop
