The first Jaguar, the SS100, built by SS Cars Ltd  was branded as a 100 mph sports car and its production ended in 1939 with the war. After the company morphed into Jaguar Cars. Once Jaguar realized that the allies would win the war, they began development of their XK 3.4 liter DOHC 6 that produced the 160 HP it would take to reach and exceed the 120 mph that the marque promised. This 1949 XK120 was built as a pure open top car. Later, a true convertible and coupe would also be built. The car had a steel chassis with either steel or aluminum alloy over a wooden frame and the body was designed to be more feline than the SS100 taking cues from late '30s streamline designs. The first XK120 that rolled off the line was sold in LHD configuration to actor Clark Gable. This 30 year old Danbury Mint model is, of course, relatively low tech with dog legs and a relatively spartan engine compartment, but its overall look and finish earns it a spot on the shelf.

Great (big) pictures. I LOVE the car. For whatever reason, I didn't get DM's 49 XK120. I did pick up FM's 52 XK120 in silver but it has the non-removable skirts. Otherwise a great model.

They may be low-tech but they’re still attractive models to have in our collections.

+1 Bob. I just wish FMs color contrasted more with the DM. It would have looked even better in say white, red or BRG, IMHO.

Great looking models guys, even if they're low tech, that doesn't bother me. A correct image is what I'm after. I have plenty of low tech models, and the make me smile just as much as the others.😊

An early purchase. I prefer this Danbury Mint one and have three slight variations as well as the Franklin Mint. You can tell that I am a Jaguar fan.

I, too, found the DM '79 Jaguar attractive and I learned there were two different releases: one with the seat molded into the cockpit and the second with a separate seat, also with a nicer 'texture.'

Molded seat:

The model I opted to buy, with the 'leather' interior:
