@jack-dodds .............I was trying to get a few nice pics of my buddy`s new Lawnosaurus........set my tripod down securely on the steeply inclined driveway.........atop the tripod,my precious Nikon 610 fully outfitted with a 55 300mm lens and a nice sunshield.......I realized IMMEDIATELY after taking my hands off the camera, that this particular section of driveway was prone to gravity influences beyond my control.......the whole mess nosedived (nosedove?) into the concrete driveway

My condolences JB.

I appreciate that Bob.............it was a bad day at Blackrock Scared ......... My tripod was spared any damage by cleverly being attached to a much heavier object

Been there, done that John with a Nikon F4 years ago. Expensive mistake. Hopefully the 610 and lens survived to fight another day although it sounds ominous that the tripod was saved damage. All the best.

@david-green ...............Thanks David .....the lens,lens filter,and sunshade gave their all on that sunny august day Serious to make matters worse, I came to realize that my tripod refused to go to work without those lost bits..........I look forward to picking up another zoom lens sometime over the next couple months

Are you still shooting with the F4?

Hi John,

Sorry about your lens. That is a serious loss.

Yes, I still have an F4 but it is a replacement for the one I damaged. I actually have far too many cameras from the 1930s onward, mostly 35mm, plus digitals. I still use the F4 but for black and white only and usually about one roll a year to keep my hand in, usually unconventional stuff. It is a heavy noisy brute.

@david-green............. I also have several old cameras....... from a Canon AE film......to a handful of 110 type snapshot models (each better that the next, but still all worthless),a nice little waterproof Olympus...........and 4 Nikon D models.... a D40 a D90 ,the aforementioned D610 and the last camera I`ll ever need, a D850

How do you show your paper-printed B/W photos to folks around the world ? Does the developer give you digital copies made from the negatives?

@john-barry

Hi Barry,
I have a shop locally called Foto Art that develops negatives and can provide prints and digital but I normally hand them over to my son who uses Photoshop on the negatives and returns them digitally or as prints. He taught photography at Ryerson University in Toronto and has talents in this area. We do share a common interest in photography. I had my own dark room for years. I don’t tend to circulate my images but I did before Covid do a variety of group presentations, usually based on my travels.

My current dslr is a Canon T3i. I have three earlier versions with a variety of lenses. I always Carry a Panasonic digital in my pocket of which I have had several. My traditional 35mm cameras include three Leicas, most recent being a Canadian made M4-2, a Nikkormat, Nikons F, FM, F3 and F4, an Olympus OM1 and a 1946 Kodak 35RF. I have others but they are not used.

I ended up going the Canon route because of a gift of my first dslr. I would have gone Nikon otherwise, like you.
