The 1967 Morris Mini Cooper S Monte Carlo Spec #177 driven by Rauno Aaltonen and Henry Liddon proved that horsepower ain't everything by winning that year's rally. The 1275 cc 4 cylinder produced only 76 HP with a top speed of 100 mph, but its superior handling with front wheel drive gave this car its 3rd first place finish that included 1964 and '65 wins. For a tiny car, it had a relatively long wheelbase with the wheels set at the corners. Large fender flares housed fatter tires mounted on Minilite wheels that gave the car the handling of a go-cart. It performed well on wet, snowy or icy roads.
This cute little model was by Franklin Mint.
I have the street version of this little hot rod.
@jack-dodds I regretfully sold my collection of Corgi (and Matchbox, Hot Wheels, Dinky, etc. etc.) years ago. If I remember correctly I believe it was that we needed money for something mundane, rent payment maybe? I always thought that Corgi was kind of underrated back in the day. I loved the little jeweled lights and the subjects matter they chose, they were toylike to me, but in a very cool way that I appreciated.
I remember having the Matchbox version as a kid. That's an awesome model Rich.💯
Love it. I have the Corgi. Wish that I had the Franklin Mint. Thank you once again Rich.
me too Bob, in BRG.I have the street version of this little hot rod.
I loved how FM thought 'outside the square' with many of their early releases. Thanks Rich
Rich, thanks for sharing. I wanted this one and the green one to go with my red one. Always liked the little Morris Mini.
