The thing about retirement is that for the most part, every day seems pretty much the same as the day before and the day before that. Though today is Monday, it no longer feels like the Monday's back when it was the start of a new work week. I mean, let's face it, Monday's were contemplated practically all day on Sunday back in those working days. Add in a an almost year long Pandemic we're all living through and now everyday is pretty much the same. Similar to the "Ground Hog Day" movie where waking up is a carbon copy of the way it was of the one left behind when you went to bed the night before.
Ritual is good, so morning reflection and prayers said as coffee is brewed, I started to think about just sitting in the Car Room for a few minutes. Entering, as always "a car" seems to pop out at me as if it's the only car on the self. No different this morning! There she sat, DANBURY MINT'S 1949 OLDSMOBILE "88" COUPE. Not a flashy car by any means and really just a "plain Jane" of sorts. One could debate that it is probably over-dressed with the white-side-wall tires, as back in the day, most 2-door sedans weren't adorned in that way. It was more of a working man's basic transportation automobile.
DANBURY MINT did a nice job capturing the era and mood with this car. It's easy to recall (for those of us old enough to remember) seeing one of these parked on the street in front of a house or in a driveway in the neighborhood. Back in the day, it was just a car.
As 1:24 collector, this Oldsmobile never loses its appeal. It reflects a simpler time that even when I was a kid, I understood. The color is period correct too. It's not just a favorite today, I like this model everyday. Second cup of coffee was poured as I smiled about those good times and this neat little car.
Some REAL '49 Oldsmobile facts:
The 1949 Olds "88" Futuramic Club Coupe in the deluxe version weighed 3,590 pounds and sold brand new for $2,274. The factory turned out 4,999 of them.

Excellent presentation. I like the way you are including the Disney figurines.

Great post George. Love the pics of DM's 49 Oldsmobile.

It may be a rather basic model but it's still a merry Futuramic Oldsmobile.
@larry-kemling, THANKS for the correction. Not sure why I typed '51, as I know it's a '49 and one of my favorite cars. Anyway, correction made. Now might you be able to tell me how to get "White-Out" off my computer screen?

Nice pictures and write up George. When DM came out with this and the station wagon I could hardly wait for them to arrive...I wasn't disappointed.
