It would be decades before FM would release their Shelby Cobra 427SC roadsters. Until then, it was Creative Masters that was fulfilling the need. Going back to 1985, the red street Cobra made its debut as a true precision model eclipsing Bburago's offering which I bought as a kit and added wind wings, translucent visors, some paintwork and a sporty couple in the cockpit.
The red street Cobra had some unusual features for the time with its badging done as castings rather than tampos or decals. The engine bay was reasonably well done for the time but lacked ignition wiring.
A few years later, the racing Cobra was released in the classic #98 livery. #98 was Shelby's personal racing number since the days he was racing for Maserati, Aston Martin and others. When his racing days were over at Shelby American, he bequeathed '#98' to Ken Miles. This #98 used the same basic tooling and besides all the conversion parts and livery, the 427 received ignition wiring.
