...FM 1949 Woody Surfer with musical stand. The stand is molded to look like beach sand with appropriate tires tracks that the model fits into perfectly. A button, when pushed, plays a snippet of the 1963 Jan & Dean hit - Surf City.

Back in the day, Jay Olins met managers at a California Franklin Mint store where they scheduled sales of the Surf Wagon along with a special appearance, for that day only, by Jan & Dean. The singing duo hand-signed every musical stand of the models that were sold. In addition, at Jay's request, they signed the two surf boards of only two models; one for Jay and the other for myself. This is that model. I display it with an autographed photo of the artists, that I previously had, as well as original FM brochures:

Lucky you Tony...!

There's gotta be many great memories of that day you still have.

I remember when, decades ago, my youngest brother who is a dedicated Carrol Shelby fan and I attended a Shelby Employees reunion event at the Huntington Beach Library.

Rick and I saw Mr.Shelby drive in and we waited a good 30mins or so before we approached him and introduced ourselves.

He was so friendly and amicable and didn't mind signing the cover of the pristine car magazine that I had found for Rick.

I don't remember if it was a Road & Track or a Motor Trend issue but it featured a 67 Corvette and a 67 Shelby Mustang GT 350 or 500  comparison.

Mr.Shelby was genuinely surprised and asked "where in he Hell did you get this?"

He then autographed the trunk lid of his namesake GT.

We had a great time !!!

This is one that I forgot about.  I remember seeing it at the Del Amo FM Gallery and thought it was very cool, but it was obviously priced higher than the $120 standard issue price of FM models and I just didn't have the extra $$ to buy it.  🙁

TERRIFIC story!! Thanks so much for sharing it here! Shelby signed a plethora of items. He also signed car models in exchange for donations to his children's fund. He was a class individual.

I forgot what it retailed for, but you're right, it was above standard issue price.

Being a great fan of Jan & Dean (love the early stuff like Baby Talk, You're On My Mind  Smile )  I think this must be a cherished piece of memorabilia to have. P.S. Have just noticed the hood ornament!

Yes, he was. Although later that day.an individual came up to him with at least a half dozen models and wanted them signed to which Mr.Shelby politely but steadfastly refused.
