One of those iconic movie cars is the Dodge Challenger from the 1971 cult classic, "Vanishing Point" which was another ' independent man against the powers that be'. Sorta like a one man "Easy Rider" with similar fatal results. The low budget movie rented (a dollar a day) 8 Challengers from Chrysler and after filming, returned 7 with varying degrees of damage. When Chrysler brass saw the film which promoted drug use and running from the cops, they crushed all the cars. All the cars were 1970 R/Ts some with the 440 and others with the 383. The actual engine in these cars was irrelevant as it was hinted in the film that it was some mystery motor and supercharged. Hence, all the engine badging was eliminated from the hood. One was an automatic for the more difficult stunts. They weren't all white as some had to be quickly repainted by the crew. The fiery crash into a pair of bulldozers actually was a '67 Camaro body being towed by a 383 car. I have this Revell diecast kit car as well as an H-61 in 1/18 and beyond the correct license plate, none are truly accurate. They all have a fully badged 440 R/T fully optioned out. They all have the optional sport gas filler which was not on the movie car. This 1/25 Revell in kit form was the first Vanishing Point model I ran into. For the money, it was pretty nicely done as almost a curb side with just an opening hood. I did a lot of minor paint detailing and added aftermarket decals to the engine bay. I probably should have wired the engine, but I had too many other projects going at the time. If you had never seen the movie, it makes a nice '70 Challenger model right down to the iconic pistol grip shifter.
why reprehensible activity was deemed objectionable to an auto manufacturer doesn`t seem in keeping with known status quo, your story is well written (as they always are)
I looked at the photos first and got the impression that the subject was a well built diecast......for this to be an assembled plastic kit is testimony to your skill......................excellent work and surgical precision photo work
@rich-sufficool .....one of my goals for the Fall semester is to learn to read 🤨 🤨
....... if I erroneously credited your skill on this one Rich, there are SCORES of posts you`ve made where I could have properly appreciated your considerable creative skills
10 years ago or so there was a company or private individual that made up some of these vanishing point challengers and I bought one but I know that I sold it I can't remember who I sold it to on the old site it might have been Gavin does anybody remember when those were released
