I absolutely LOVE this photo!!!!  An unused and derelict diesel loco is sadder than unheard W.C. Handy music. 

As much as I enjoy Cher's version, I always turn to Cohn and Lonestar.

Marc Cohn's version, of course, is quintessential since it is his autobiographical composition. It actually captures the flavor and feeling that is that part of Memphis - Beale Street, Union Avenue, the Hollywood Cafe.

Lonestar gave a brilliant impromptu performance of the song live in a N.C. radio station:

@perrone1 thank you Tony.......I have replaced my link to Cher`s very well performed version with one to the incomparable Cohn performance.......and,tho I`m repeating myself, you and Shirl would probably enjoy this offbeat Indy film....all about an arrival in Memphis
