Well, if you couldn't be one, you could buy one. As the top of the line, wood paneled estate wagon, the Country Squire began with the first generation in 1950-1951. This 1961 Country Squire is officially the 5th gen (1960-1964). Standard for 1961 was the 300HP Thunderbird 390 cid V8 with the 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission. The '61 model's tail gate was now one piece with a roll down window that had been standard in Mercury since 1957. As to the body, the redesign from 1960 so the reappearance of small tailfins with large rounded taillamps in line with the Thunderbird.
The FM model is a really nice replication although still with old tech dog legs. George Bojaciuk offered enough fun accessories to load the wagon up like the "Family Truckster". All that was missing was grandma tied to the roof.
How timely, I was just admiring mine yesterday. This is probably my favorite FM model. It's so well done.
👍 A '61 Country Sedan was my first car. Got it when I turned 16 for $200. I loved it. I installed indoor/outdoor carpet tiles to make it more comfy when camping. I liked the retractable window as opposed to the '60s 2 piece tail-gate. I learned a lot about working on cars as I couldn't afford a mechanic 🤣
George must have overlooked the roof rack! One of my real 'holy grails'. Thanks RichGeorge Bojaciuk offered enough fun accessories to load the wagon up like the "Family Truckster". All that was missing was grandma tied to the roof.
