Payment plans???
I was thinking of some way to spark the interest in our auction site,I was just thinking about some of my customers and friends that would like to have a payment plan,I know that times I was not able to shell out the full price on some things that I wanted.Let me know if anyone would be interested in this idea.Thank you very much, Bob
Dollar down and a dollar a week?
Good idea! But .99 of that would be interest, compounded daily.
😉
The Problem is with the Auction Prices and BB "specials"
The vast majority of cars offered on the D4C auction are way over-priced. I look at the starting bids and targets and I just roll my eyes. The same cars cam be had on eBay for half the price.
The core problem is that you can list and list and list at the same price, "buyer only pays if the item sells". I like this aspect but toooooooo many take advantage.
I propose that to offer any car on our auction that there be a $2.00 listing fee. Then if it sells there is the usual added percentage. And $2.00 for any subsequence offering.
I've been a member since before the website and I have seen my dues increase quite a lot. I feel I am subsidizing the D4C auction.
If you look at what sells, this site makes less than the guy down the street selling pencils.
The second thing I would like to address are those who advertise their auctions on the bulletin board. Whether its the D4C auction or eBay or "trade". I think that whoever does this should also pay an additional fee. $2 or 10% of sale. Whatever is equitalble.
I, personally, am tired of all the promos for "heads up" auctions and eBay slight-of-hands that fall under the radar.
This is a bulletin board, not a swap shop and recently I have seen far too many ads, solicitations, hard luck stories etc. I wonder how many of these have paid their 10% to the website.
Maybe if many more paid their dues, our dues would be less.
The guys here do such a service for us---outa BIG LUV--without pay, that we owe it them to contribute our fair share.
How many have posted that they are selling XXX and they sold XXX. They sold it because this site exists.
There are some dy-no-mite guys here who always say 10% to the zone. It's not a donation. But there are way too many who don't even mention this.
I'm ready for the attack!
Let me start the attack.
Maybe you put this under a separate thread instead of tying it to Bob White.
Sorry John, I think it's fine the way it is !
Some of what you say is true but.........
Not all the cars listed here can be had on ebay for half price. Bidding on ebay is at best a crap shoot. Often you will see cars that are still available new from the mints sell for over list. Then there is the "MIB" car that arrives in 10 pieces.
Many of the long time sellers like Bob list their cars at reasonable prices and stand behind what they sell.
D4C auction
I wouldn't change a thing about the website or for that matter, people offering a heads up on the BB. Many times I have checked the auction site because of the heads up. As for the D4C auction, I don't know where you get your numbers but I have found many great deals on this site and the bonus is that every transaction has been a real pleasure dealing with people you can trust.I too have been a member of D4C since before the website was formed and I think the format is teriffic.
Right, Bob White's auction listings are very fair and his integrity...
is way above reproach. I too would like to see the discussion on this thread to stay on Bob's idea, rather than the wider issue. No offense to anyone BTW.
Having said that, my general attitude toward credit is many people overuse it. If it's affordable in payments, it should be affordable in total as well, or the buyer should be waiting until he/she has the cash to pay at a future time.
This whole US economic mess we're in right now is due to credit being offered to people who could not afford the price of the home, and most should never have been approved for a mortage. (the variable loan rates and other underhanded dealings by mortgage companies just compound the basic issue)
I see having a payment plan for D4C as starting a lot of future animosity among members of the board. To Bob White, I respect your opinion implicitely. It's human nature IMO that a few will not live up to their obligation, and then the entire board will have its "hobby spirit" entangled in the dispute.
Some of you may be assuming the wrong thing.
Bob was asking about a payment plan which does not necessarily mean credit. I thought he meant more along the lines of a lay away plan. You win the auction and pay $X amount per month until the balance is paid, then your car is sent out.
I think your right Thomas! I don't think, nor would expect Bob W. to....
Send out models that are only partially paid for! Perhaps FM still does a payment plan, and I know that DM does for sure, but they are BIG companies that can afford to swallow the loss if a person doesn't pay the balance. They could right it as a loss at the end of the year OR I'm sure they have lawyers that work with them and can make a case out of it, or refer it to a collection agency. A little guy like Bob or myself have little recourse aside from threatening the person OR going to the local Police (AS if they really care or would do anything!!! LOLOLOLOL YEAH RIGHT).
Your caution is well deserved Phil. But I have had a conversation with
Bob that indicated that he would be willing to "deal" with certain D4C buyers. I once told him that I had to wait a couple weeks to mail the check and he could hold the car 'til then. He sent the model out anyway before he got the check. Another time he did not cash my check for several weeks and said that he wanted to be sure I was satisfied (crazy man). Of course I was!!!!!!! Bob is top-notch!!!!!!!!!
