PIC: #8 Favorite on my shelf! The only car that I fudged on with my self-imposed
NO car older than 1940 rule.
This 1939 Ford coupe from Danbury Mint was simply a must have! In beautiful period correct black, it was just too iconic to pass up. I have both the DM 1940 coupes as well, and they make a nice trio lined up on my shelf.
This little black good-looker always catches my eye when I enter the room, so it makes my TOP TEN.
Tomorrow (Saturday) I reveal my #9 and then Sunday #10. Any guesses which cars they will be? photo no longer available

It is a great model. Perfect color for the style.

George if that's a must have you owe it to yourself to pick up a 1939 "Worlds Fair Ford
By TFM, The details are awesome and I know you could care about working features BUT the wind up windows are sure to put a smile on your face both 1:1 and 1:24th lololol I have the Blue one and the D4C one with trailer, best of the best!!!! 👍👍👍
George, I'm glad you didn't deprive yourself.....
from enjoying this beauty. Danbury did such a great job with it - from the wood grained dash and window moldings to the neat period correct upholstery. And open the hood and you would believe you are looking at the 1:1 car. There is so many details (heater hose decals, choke rods coming from the dash, plug wires and tubes, etc.).
It's a great addition to your list.
LOL Phil, the "wind-up" windows were the very reason I DID NOT buy that car.
My thought then, and still is, "What the hell do I care if the windows go up and down or not?"
I think the problem I have with this whole "operating parts" thing is that, because some want the car to have everything a REAL car does, it not only jacks up the price for those of us that could give a rip if the gas cap opens or not etc. And as a result, the mints can no longer produce cars that are just beautiful examples of how they looked back in the day, still be a collectible and at an affordable price.
I don't disrespect anyone for wanting and appreciating working features, but it frustrates me that because they don't get what they want, guys like me don't get what I want. That being just a static model to display and admire at a price that I don't have to give up my first born to afford.
Yea I know that the mints spoiled us with cars that did everything but provide keys to start the engine, but that was then, and this is now. And now, producing those same type cars are going to cost us three or four times what they did before.
The one I get the most chuckle over are those folks who want a detailed undercarriage. Seriously? Do they display their cars upside down??? I totally get the hood opening and a detailed engine, that's a nice feature. But why do the doors have to open? Can we get in the car?
The above said, I sincerely thank everyone for sharing their opinions and points of view. All bring good conversation to the Forum, and because we all love cars, this place lets us share that love.
Peace guys!

Well that just makes no sense!! I never heard of someone liking an image
It was/is affordable $120-$140 when new, you like the year and Model BUT refused to buy it cause it had too many working features or a feature you deemed silly! That model was no more or less costly then any other Mint model, so the fact that it was jam packed with working features didnt raise the price! I respect that and your entitled to you opinion, I just don't get it!!!! It leaves me like huh?? That would be like me going out to buy a new 1:1 Challenger and wanting a plain one cause I dont care about option s nor do I want to drive the price of the car up BUT the dealer shows me one with sunroof, navigation, back up camera etc. says the buyer backed out and they'll sell it to me at the same price as a non loaded one. Great deal but I say NO !!! Just don't get it
He doesn't care about engine details, heater hoses etc. the car doesn't start up so....
He would like it just the same had there been NO engine or opening hood perhaps even more! Right George?
@ Phil Realmuto: A little clarification. I did not by the World's Fair "windows" car for that reason, but most importantly because I only like the little two-door coupe (Black) version that went on to become pretty much the same in 1940.
The "Huh?" you feel because I didn't buy it, is the same "Huh?" I say for you buying it and the additional trailer (or whatever it's called) with it. The "windows" version just wasn't for me at any price. We are all different.

Might as well get Welly 1:24 cars at your local......
Rite Aid drug store for $9.95. Although some do have opening doors, hoods and a few even the trunk. But you don't have to worry about keeping the box, 'cause you don't get one.
