PIC. With the occasional talk here of Continental spare tires around here, I thought that perhaps a pic of this 1935 Ford sedan maybe of interest showing an historical Continental kit, but I think that in these times it was know just as "The Spare"

Somehow it just looks right on that vehicle
On some vehicles it just looks right, on others it looks out of place. I suppose it's a matter of preference
'For me' - in the 30s / 40s, it didn't look bad as it did in the 50s because...
...of the way the bumpers were done.
In the 50s, they decided to put that crazy, 'diving platform' / bumper extension on 'most' connie-kits instead of just adding the 'spare' to the stock bumper....i.e. - '56 T-bird, '58 Impala.
That bumper extension made the whole thing look silly.
I agree, to me they detract from the beautiful flowing lines of the car. JMHO though.
I think it look ok because it was part of its original thought and design!
Most of the 50s cars that have it look out of place or out right RIDICULOUS is because it was never intended to have it. The end result looks concocted or added on.
I so agree with Phil ...
I agree. It looked like an afterthought on the 50s cars
