PICS (1:1) Let's Make a Deal.........Part 89...(NOW IN LIVING COLOR...sometimes).......

Fords on Friday ....

You could drive away in a Ford OR a Mercury on the corner of 9th St. South and 4th Avenue in St. Petersburg FL., c.1946....

Nostalgia was new, too, in Columbus. O., in 1957....

Looks like pickups were more popular than cars at C & J Auto Sales in 1958....

Seems like life was good for the Kellas brothers in Pasadena CA., c.1962, but did they have only one desk between them?....

As opposed to all the other Ford dealers in town who could be quite cranky at times....

In 1966, Fords came in all sizes and shapes at 1520 N. Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, FL....

Looks like Drew Carey was selling Mustangs at Owen Ford Sales, Inc., 561 N. Delsea in Vineland, NJ., c.1967....

old and new dealers

Interesting trend in new mega dealers, no cars in the showroom just about 20 mini desks for sales staffs. And, of course, brochures long gone. In my area the only dealers with "the old ways" are the luxury dealers with almost every model in a very well appointed showroom. But for old low lifes like me, no more sitting in the show room cars "just looking." The cars are parked outside, all locked but ready for a demo drive if you can find the sales staff. But nobody will let you in one just to "look." Oh for the hospitality of the days of your pics!

Yep---I gotta chime in on this one.

I fondly remember visiting the dealers when I was a teen in the mid sixties. The guys were always nice and would talk to you if they were not busy with customers. You could sit in the cars in the showroom and ogle them and wish you had the dough to buy one!
New car introductions were celebrations! All new bodies, new dashboards........cool stuff! Balloons, free food, cups of coke...covered showroom windows (remember those???)...always a gala affair! I particularly recall the '58 Chevrolets! I was nearly ten years old! I was blown away!
Oh how things have changed!

Gene, what kind of car is to the left of the red and white 66 Ford? I have never seen one before.

Most business model changes are based on evolution. I don't know for sure...

... but I'd bet that the reason brochures are rarely available today is because today's business model is to have you drive away with the car on the day you walk in. I wonder if brochures encourage you to "browse" and delay your purchase decision. Just a theory based on my imagination.

Yup, it's an Anglia. One of the last years of it's production, there was some overlap with......

the Cortina.

NOT, That's a Ford Product there and I think an "Anglia"? Vauxall was/is GM.
