Very cool. Terrific find.
.
Thanks for posting that story and pictures. I vaguely remember dealers using similar uses for the promos.
Chevrolet had wall plaques I think around 1962,1963, where they cut their complete line of cars in half and mounted them on a picture frame.I only saw them on the dealer wall and was told they were not for sale.

I am looking forward to seeing more pix of your promo's, thanks again!

Great find and story!
Unusual car and a great back story
Thanks for sharing
Thnx! I'll be looking forward to more pics of your collection.
I'm an odd ball so I definitely appreciate other "odd balls" and that IS certainly one of them!
Truly a wonderful toy.
The late Sam Miller had access to one of those and made resin duplicates. I painted quite a few tri-tones over the years for my friend and promo dealer Clarence Young. I remember fondly creating the roof rack from coat hanger material as I was always afraid to even attempt to use the brittle resin copy he included with the kit. Usually the tri-tones were red, white, and black or pink, white and black. Unfortunately I have no pics of the finished cars.
Also, I have never seen an original example, but for some reason I recollected someone telling me they chassis was reassembled with rivets. Yours looks like it was spot welded. It really does make one wonder if the manufacturer actually purchased and modified Chevy promos to use as a chassis for the Rambler wagon. Sure does suggest low volume, almost craft level production.
Thanks for the additional information
My guess is that these were made by PMC with off he shelf parts for wheels, tires and a chassis that would take some modification. Take a close look at the roof rack. Notice only one rear support? There is only a support on the right right rear, no support at all on the left side. Sure was a strange way to make the roof rack.
