Super sharp / outstanding pics. Have it - love it. DM should've done a Coupe de Ville though.

It always bothers me when someone says "DM should have......". They gave us so many incredible die-casts over the years, and there were always the comments (and even complaints) that "they should have done this, or they have done that".

I know we all have "our own wants", but when I look back at what Danbury (and the other mints) gave us, it often seemed like no matter what they produced, there were always the unsatisfied folks who didn't like it or wanted something in place of it.

And oh man, the complaints. It's not the right color someone wished it was. It should have been this model or that model. I honestly don't know why the mints even bothered to give us what they did, as all of us were guilty of not being satisfied at one time or other.

Now they are gone! No more 1:24 scale, and oh how we wish they were still around. Seriously, we had it pretty darn good while it lasted, and (though I can only speak for myself) I sure wish we still received the "Cars of the Open Road" catalog to get excited over when the new releases were featured and also the flyers in the mail teasing us with a new car.

... considering the time, packaging design and tooling costs that went into each die cast model, I'm amazed they offered as many choices as they did. From what I've heard, once Chinese labor costs started rising, it was the beginning of the end. The mints would have had to raise the prices considerably, which would price many collectors out of the market.

Although I've built hundreds of kits over the decades, I didn't get into collecting die casts until about five years ago, so I missed out on a lot of them. I enjoy seeing what other's have in their collections on here.

Excuse me for being sentimental... my folks had a '58 Coupe de Ville. Bought this '57 anyway. And..

necessary to justify your reason to want a Coupe DeVille. BTW, I also prefer a Coupe DeVille over an Eldorado.

Great car and great pics......but I would have prefered a Coupe De Ville over an Eldorado.......

I dislike the tailend of the Eldo....it looks like an afterthought to me. Yes, I wish "The Mints" would have produced a Coupe De Ville.

See John, we're all different. I personally liked the Eldorado rear-end much better than the

Coupe DeVille. The latter looked completely odd to me from the rest of the car, whereas the Eldo rear-end looked sportier and more natural with the flow of the rest of the car.

To each our own. And for the record, I'd have been happy with and would have bought a Coupe DeVille had they made one.

I like your comments John about the probability of rising costs had the mints continued giving us new models. The way I look at it though, is I'd have rather have been possibly priced out of the market than to have no market at all.

Like most collectors back then, we looked forward to each new model produced, and even at the prices they were at, some of us had to pick and choose which cars we would purchase. And maybe we'd buy fewer cars because of price increases, but at least we had the option to buy some of them.

But with the mints out of the 1:24 die-cast business all-together, now we don't have any cars at all.

You know John, there are times when I wonder if the world might not be boring if we all liked the same things and agreed more often. You know it might be really a better world if we didn't constantly have to debate, defend, and accept all the many and constant differences all of us have. Perhaps there would be a lot more peace and contentment in the world.
