Thanks Bob, that is quite the number. I like the way you say, "you have no filter" on what you collect. I'd guess that is true for a good many collectors. You know I've never gotten in to the 1:43 scale, and that is the very reason why. I know there are so many different cars that I'd buy one, and that would open the flood gates.
Not that I wouldn't love to have some of the ones in that scale that you've mentioned, but I just know that I'd be out of control if I ever bought even one.
In my defense though, I've mentioned here on the Forum a few times that I personally feel 1:43 is too small, so that also has prevented me from likely going crazy and buying tons of them.
Back in October 1989 when I ordered the Danbury Mint 1957 Chevy (blue) convertible (with the closed trunk), I remember doing so only to see what the quality of it was. I'd seen an ad in the Sunday newspaper Parade magazine, and couldn't believe that it was so expensive. I told my wife that I just need to see what the quality of the car was for that excessive price, my words at the time.
Well, the Chevy arrived and I loved it. Then I saw another ad in the Parade magazine for the Danbury '49 Mercury (black) coupe, and sent away for it. You can guess the rest, and as you say it wasn't my intention to buy so many. It just happened one car at a time!
Many years ago here on the Forum there was a discussion of what constitutes a "large" or "small" collection, and though the definition of what is large or small is in the eyes of the beholder, you Bob, have a LARGE collection. I've got friends who have told me I have a large collection, but mine isn't even in the running compared to yours.
With the exception of owning nineteen 1:18 scale die-cast, I've stayed true to only buying 1:24 scale and keeping my criteria to American cars only, no Corvettes, and for the model years 1940 to 1970. Though with the last criteria, I've cheated four times, as I have the DM '37 Studebaker and the DM '39 Ford Coupe. And on the other side of 1970, I have a FM '72 Oldsmobile and a GMP '71 Pontiac GTO. The total 1:24 scale I have is at 308 cars.
Now if there was a definition for what is a small collection based on YOUR collection size Bob, mine would be small for sure. Yet a guy who only has something less than my 300+ would surely describe my collection as being large.
It depends on what is being compared, that's for sure. Thank you again for sharing your insight and collection!

No I didn't Dennis. But then, I'm not the least in to motorcycles, so I'm sure that's why I don't.
