In 1955, Pontiac finally joined the Big Three bandwagon replacing their optional Straight 8 with their Strato-Streak 180 HP 287 cid OHV V8 whhich would be standard throughout their line up. Also optional was now a 3 speed Hydra-Matic transmission. Franklin Mint's Pontiac Star Chief convertible is nicely done for its age with ignition wiring and proper labeling along with a well crafted interior. No top up option was offered which was normal for the time, and the dog leg hinges were much less obtrusive than prior models, the model presents itself as a very pretty boulevard cruiser.

Do I understand correctly that in this era the American Pontiac didn't offer a 6 cylinder engine option post war?  As many Forumites know Canadian Pontiacs were based on the Chevrolet chassis post war and in '55 a 6 cyl.  was seen much more frequently in this car than the V-8.  I learned to drive on my neighbor's '55 Pontiac sedan with a 6 cyl. engine and 3-on the tree trans.  It was an extremely reliable and popular car equipped like this.  Note:  the ht is a V8, which I believe was the Chevy 265 C.I.

I love the FM '55 Pontiacs. Sad they didn't do the '56 or any Safari's. 😪

@jack-dodds Yes Jack all American Pontiacs for 1955 had the 287 CI V8 motor. I took my drivers test in my dad's 1955 Star Chief  convertible in 1956.

Pontiac 005 001
Pontiac 001 001
Pontiac 003 001
Pontiac 004 001
Pontiac 002

and an old Tootsie Toy Safari that I've have since I was 10 yrs old (1956). The tail gate works and it actually has a full interior:

Pontiac 007
Pontiac 008
Pontiac 010

@rich-sufficool

Rich, you've done a masterful job detailing the '56 Star Chief Catalina.  I love the fact that it's a four-door hardtop.

@pete-rovero A friends mother had a 1/1 just like this new in 1956. My friend found an all original, mint example a few years ago even down to the factory air conditioning. My favorite 56 Pontiac is this four door hardtop Star Chief in this color. Love the promo Rich.

@bob-jackman Bob;    I am wondering if the colors you are referring to are one of the 2 color choices shown by Sergio for his upcoming '56 Safari wagon?  It looks pretty close; especially when you consider how photography lighting, etc. can affect the result.
