For 1958, both Chevrolet and Pontiac squeezed the last ounce out of their chassis with some significant changes in their body lines and trim packages. The spiked vertical tailfins were turned to the horizontal along with the tail light groupings and new quad headlamps with jet plane front fender indicators. The faux 4 fender vents of the '57 were also turned horizontal. The side spear morphed to a winged jet with the resurrected Pontiac stars (now 4) looking like part of the exhaust. This particular model is the the 300 HP 3X2bbl "Tri Power" option opposed to the 310 HP Rochester fuel injection. I knew a guy who had this identical car in bronze which I thought looked so cool until the day I saw him drive off with my girlfriend. I guess she liked it too. The interior was as luxurious at the outside with the recurring waterfall trim now relegated to the arm rested and a bar on the dash. The dash has a removable and potable AM radio that I guess you could take to the beach. The optional continental kit was so large the option came with dual exhaust extensions. Although there were certainly enough visual changes from the prior year to satisfy the 'planned obsolescence' the marketing boys demanded. this year basically allowed a year's grace for the whole new "Wide Track" Pontiacs for 1959.

Beautiful Rich, I absolutely love the color combo on this. This was the first diecast I ever modified by removing the CK.😊

The radio was called a Trans- Portable and I believe was only available on the Pontiac and Oldsmobile. A year ago a friend bought a 58 Bonneville hardtop at the Mecum auction in Florida. The car was formerly owned by a guy in Jackson, Ms who had it professionally restored with every option available including fuel injection, A/C, power steering, power brakes, power antenna on the rear fender, trunk release, power bucket seats, power windows, air suspension Trans Portable Radio and the rarest option I have ever seen, a pull down tinted inside visor which rides on tracks and covers about the top third of the windshield. Since buying the car my friend has taken the car to the Pontiac Nationals and several AACA shows where it has won Best of Show awards and Senior status. Not my thing but it is a magnificent automobile.
