Question for any bus or european lorry collectors...
After seeing Rich S's great pictures of the Sunstar Routemaster I decided to order one. After explaining to my wife why I needed another toy she reminded me of a project I put on the back burner a while back. I stored away many variations of FM and Tamiya 24th Mini Coopers to do the original 'Italian Job' cars but put it aside because of the bus. If anyone has seen the original version they use a bus that utilizes 4 front wheels. I dont know the make of the vehicle and that makes it somewhat hard to search for. But if anyone knows what it is or can tell me if it is made by any diecast company or model kit company I would greatly appreciate it. Merry Christmas everyone!
I would suggest.....
you ask this on Forum43. If this does exist in diecast, I would imagine it would be done in 1/43 or more likely 1/50 scale. I've seen some really fabulous buses and trams recently coming out of eastern Europe and Russia. And, of course, Corgi would also be a likely candidate for a movie vehicle.
Thats kind of what I was afraid of having it being too small. I know a lot of the guys here know much more about whats happening internationally than me an hoping some third world country may produce something large enough or similar enough that I could modify it. Knowing what make of vehicle it is would help a ton too. Thanks Rich
The bus used was a Bedford Val Coach. There is a set of the Italian Job vehicles by Vanguards with the mini's in 1:43 scale and the bus in 1:50.

Part of the team's getaway equipment, less famous than the Minis, was Bedford VAL14/Harrington Legionnaire I ALR453B, lettered for "Croker Coach Tours" (Michael Caine's character was Charlie Croker). Bob Wingrove's Legionnaire Group website has photographs and a history of this rare coach.

Maybe this helps.
Corgi Classics have done other models of this coach in the same scale.

The most notable Legionnaire ever was ALR 453B which was in the film 'The Italian Job'. New to Battens coaches of London, this vehicle was converted especially for the film. After its epic use in the film ALR did go back to being a coach and was scrapped about 1990 after being in service with several operators, mainly in the Scotland area
THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!
