[Closed] QUESTION: If DM is indeed out of the diecast business, what should happen to the BB?

IMO, It should stay as is. A place to come, post pics of 1:1 and diecasts, talk real and model cars discuss and share pics of plastic models that everyone may build and share, etc.

The after market will flourish for at least ten years until the baby boomers move on and the following generation who rode the tail end of the 'car guy' era (70s muscle cars and a handful of 80's hanger- ons).

The BB has evolved so much in the last three years that there is enough interesting postings to keep people coming every morning with their cups of coffee; not to mention the friendships that have developed for years......many are now over 14 years.

We all still have that special bond of knowing how exciting and fun this hobby can be......our collections are the glue that holds us together.........I think the board will survive and continue to grow.....and perhaps, the best is yet to come.

The "secondary market" is actually quite healthy...

and should provide some real quality and value for some time. As we all get older (I'm almost 60) it is nice to know that there's a market for our cars and places like this site to sell them at some point. Even if the D Mint no longer produces cars, I doubt that many of us will give up completely. The secondary market will be a help in "easing the pain" !

There are also other companies still making 1/24th scale diecast cars, and many of them are very nice, especially considering the price. In addition to the aftermarket (and modified cars from collectors) there will be these other 1/24 cars and trucks, all of which are great fun to collect, photograph and talk about !

A question back to you Marlowe...Why does anything need to happen to the BB? I think it can go along just as it is right now. We have a regular group of posters, who love old cars, whether diecast or real.

This is a fun place to visit. I think nothing needs to change on the BB, if indeed, DM is gone. I am though, still keeping my fingers crossed that DM is still fighting to live on, and will.

The purpose of the question was to stimulate a conversation and discussion which is what it's done.

I sure do like it and hope it stays as is.

I'm not ready to accept the premise that DM is out of the diecast business just yet...

...But keep in mind that we describe the Bulletin Board as a place to discuss "topics relating to automotive collectibles, especially 1:24 scale." DM alone will not factor into that changing.

True, Tony, and I wish more collectors were open to budget 1/24 and 1/25 diecast. As Mike D....

....mentioned, there are other active companies producing 1/24 and 1/25 diecast models that are very nice and worth collecting and sharing.

Even if DM might be out of the picture, 1/24 diecast are still out there. This board doesn't say "for collecting DM" models exclusively, sooooo.....
