I’ve always regretted selling my DM ‘67 FSO Corvette when I sold most of my Vettes to make room for my newer interests. It was one of my very favorites, but I told myself that I’d be OK without it. Not true, self! I thought about maybe getting another one, but the prices have gone crazy on the model, so I gave up looking. While browsing eBay, I noticed one that the seller had stated it had never been out of the clamshell, that the lid had been opened only for photos. There was no way I was going to bid on it, it was going to be way out of reach. “Oh crap” l said out loud, it’s a buy it now for $105.00! I hit the button, and the rest is history.
I did it my way.
It looks spectacular and it is a wonderful experience to re-acquire an old favorite again ! A terrific addition to the collection.
Wow! Bargain of the year!
I am not sure how old you are, but as we continue to age, this will become the norm as young people who inherit these models, do not want them they will sell them cheaper and cheaper as the buying crowd is dying off. I know not one of my 4 kids want my collection so I will try to sell what I can before my final demise whenever that might be.
@carsman1958 Hi John, I made some instant assumptions after the purchase. I didn’t take too much time reading the auction details as needless to say, I was in a hurry to make the sale. I was dealing with a female, so interest on her part in the models was probably nil. All of her models were similarly priced no matter the value, so she was probably widowed or divorced, or just super pissed at her significant male other. By the way, I’m 72 and I don’t think any of my heirs are interested in my models, I’ll hold onto them for a while more, I’m still ticking so there’s no hurry on my part. Besides, you don’t really know if you will die or not!
@kevins Great score Kevin. Pricey is the reason I've never acquired one. It is a beauty. At least my grandsons have shown interest in wanting my collection. Whether that stays true to coarse, I don't know.
This was an unexpected surprise and joy when DM decided to do this model. And they did it wonderfully. Hey, the engine bay detail, alone, should be worth $105. CONGRATS - well done!
Good going with that buy!

@kevins Kevin, I'm 85 and have no kids. My wife and I have had many conversations regarding our collections and the conclusion is always the same...if we still enjoy them why not keep them. At 72 I was still in full buying mode.
@bob-jackman Good for you Bob; keep on collecting this beautiful art form if it brings you great enjoyment; otherwise what was all your life's work for? Plus, surrounding yourself by things that bring such pleasure will surely add a few years to anyone's life....right? Personally I think the priority of a collector of any art form is to ensure that, when the time comes, it is made available to other collectors to acquire, love and preserve. A structured/documented plan such as a collection being handled by a reputable auction house or model retailer would achieve such a goal while facilitating a reasonable financial return for the collector's estate.
@bob-jackman I always appreciate advice from a Master, Bob!
