Back when FM released their Porsche Carrera model, it was an iconic image I didn't have in my collection although in a few years I wound up the a slew of precision 911 variants in 1/18 sale. Back then, FM's conversions of models like the Countach S into phantom cop cars were going crazy on the secondary market. Now the Carrera 'cop car' was an LE of "only 911" so without putting any more thought into it, I ordered it. The conversion turned out to poorly thought out (read: "idiotic"). OK, they put a policeman's cap, night stick and handcuffs on the seat as well as a police band radio, but where did they put the light bar and antenna?..... on the removable top instead of the C pillar arch! Didn't anyone wonder how that would work?
I'm wondering how many of you were savvy enough to notice that from the brochure and baled on it. Every time I look at that model, I just slap myself on the forehead with a resounding, "DOH!!!".
Funny Rich. Never paid it much attention, but I get what you are saying. Definitely not realistic.
Nice pictures Rich!
Also, another thing I never understood was the emblems for these police cars. Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), it is a fraternal organization of law enforcement officers but not an authority such as municipal police department.
I thought that FOP doesn't have cars marked as FOP, but found several images. However if these are not vehicles for law enforcement they should not be equipped with light bars, handcuffs etc.
I was wrong again, here is one FOP fun car with light bars ...
Rich, no not at all. I do not have this Porsche. But if I had the chance I would add it to my collection even if it is not correct. And by the time I get one, I will probably forgotten about your post and just marveled at the car. LOL
The cop car, football team models never appealed to me. I prefer realism and never saw a Porche cop car. At least not in Alabama!
I never paid much attention to this model then. I remember seeing it the catalogs, but never considered it. But I've have fallen victim to a couple other "poorly executed" models.
