Louis Marx (August 11, 1896 – February 5, 1982) would produce and market these little pike hunters shortly after Alaska became the final "United State"
"On January 1, 1959, Alaska became the 49th state in the United States of America. Joining dozens of other businesses, Louis Marx manufactured several products that were intended to take financial advantage of the event, releasing four playsets in 1958 and 1959 related to Alaska and the Arctic."
That`s old Louis in the first photo, looking dapper as he admires a bit of his own handiwork......Herbert Hoover was also in attendance that day
this is the text that accompanied the pictures when they were first posted here
Love both the images and the history. Would like to see a hovering Hoover, but not the Presidential one.
Back in the 50’s I remember the political slogan was “Alaska a state in ‘58!”
William Egan was on a senate committee to make it the 49th state and became it’s first state governor starting in January 1959.
Great pictures as always JB, I don’t remember Mr. Marx though.

my earliest political recollection was along the lines of that whole "I like Ike" business and that was gleaned through the very literate cartoons I would watch some 8 years or so down the line.Mad Magazine and national Lampoon would later fill in gaps for me.
I see that I awarded the designation of "FIFTIETH" state to Alaska.....my apologies to Hawaii
