...but no heartache on heartache. This is the 16th '55 Oldsmobile I've repainted, so I wanted it to be special. I chose Twilight Blue over Bimini Blue Poly for this convertible:
Castings ready for primer-sealer, then painted base coats and clear coat...
But after doing the initial mock-up, the colors didn't work well together, at least to my eye. The Twilight Blue was just too dark.
So, after sanding down the front clip and upper sides, I repainted the Twilight Blue the lighter shade of Frost Blue. Mock-up with chrome attached made this color combo come alive. Much better!!
Interior: I chose a tri-tone combo of white, light blue, and dark metallic blue. Pics show white masked off and light blue painted, then white and light blue masked off and the upper dark blue painted. Door panels are shown before assembly and the application of BMF.
Chassis from the red/white convertible below. The white inner fenders will be painted semi-gloss black like the 1:1 cars and red carpeting will be changed to blue. I use Ken's Kustom Fuzzy Fir and a close-matching blue enamel. I use enamel because it dries slower, allowing more time and better adhesion of the Fuzzy Fir. When I was building 1:25 scale models in the late '60's there was a similar product called Funny Fir flocking for model car carpets. Fuzzy Fir sounds a lot like Funny Fir. Hmmmm.
Here's the finished product. I have about 35-40 hours in this car, from tear-down to build-up, plus materials. I hope you enjoy seeing another color combination that DM could have done. I've got three more models in the works, hoping to wrap those up in the next three or four months. Thanks for looking!
Pete, that is one outstanding Oldsmobile model that you've created ! Your choice of colors is 'fantabulous'. Thank you for sharing all of your work-in-progress pics with us. I can guarantee you that I will be looking forward to your future model builds. Have yourself a Merry Christmas.
BTW, the headlights look very realistic. Do you eliminate the mounting peg/stem as I don't see the 'dead spot' in the middle ?
And, a nice reference to Bobby V. 👍

What a great-looking '55 Olds replica in a superb color combination ! My 1/24 1955 Super 88 (Welly) is a white over dark blue and these beauties are naturals for two-tone color schemes.
Another masterpiece! Your skills just blow me away.
Pete, you do outstanding work. Thank you for sharing.
Your change to the lighter blue made all the difference in making this model outstanding. Another masterpiece from a master model builder/painter. Every time I see another example of your work, it makes me proud to have an example in my collection.
What a beautiful result. Your skills are really impressive and I love seeing your pics as you progress through each project.
Wow, thanks for sharing these, Pete, your skills always amaze us.

what an amazing transformation.......thank you so much for sharing so much of the process in photos Pete
Thank you Steve, and Merry Christmas! Concerning the DM Oldsmobile headlights, there is no locating "peg". Danbury Mint molded the headlight bezel and bucket as one piece and glued a delicate lens over it for a realistic look.
I can always tell if a lens has been reglued because, if not done properly, it will fog over and look cloudy.

@100ford2003 Good one Steve!
Thank you Jack. Every time I see or hear the phrase "Blue on Blue" my mind goes directly to that song!
Lots of work on this one but very nicely done. A beautiful result.
Thank you, guys! I appreciate the comments and enjoy sharing my builds with you.
