Auto Union's Audi division ended with this 1938 to 1940 Model 920, only to have the marque resurrected in 1965. The 920 was a luxury mid-sized car that was fit between the high end Horch and the mid-market Wanderer. It was powered by a 3.3 liter inline 6 that was derived from the Horch straight 8. Producing only 74 HP, it was certainly not an Autobahn screamer with a top end of only 81 mph. It was available as a 4 door saloon/limo or this cabriolet. It's beautifully designed but very Germanic in appearance. Production ceased after 1281 were built due to the war. This is a CMC model of the series-custom Heinrich Glaser body cabriolet. The 2 decade delay in resuming the Audi marque was due to Soviet forces plundering the Auto Union factories in Chemitz and Zwickau both located in East Germany. It's a really well done CMC model with the grill made from a slew of die cut metal slats with a beautiful faux wood and leather interior and a nicely scaled cloth top. I loke that CMC didn't model the tires as the common Continental but rather Fulda "Fuldaflex" radials made in Luxemburg.
One of my very few foreign brand cars. It's a real beauty.
Couple on eBay:
@perrone1 WOW!! The prices on those two (((phew!)))
NOTE: The first two I posted are from Japan. Two different sellers (ostensibly) but the same exact photos. Red flag? Could be.
Here's one in US that bears looking into and/or questions asked.
Incredible close ups Rich. Theres a Lounge post about delicate models. Window frame has fallen off twice on mine so it stays where it is on its shelf, and I'll rely on your closeups for detailed viewing.
Ebay prices for this are a classic example of what I carry on about a lot. Just ridiculous but it now or starting bid prices. You may have a long wait unfortunately Benjamin until someone actually decides they want to sell one. I'd check out UK ebay as well. I've found a few quality models there over the years from genuine sellers, and there is some bias towards European and British cars. Good luck, it is really worth it if you can find one.
@geoff-jowett I may just break down and purchase that US one Sunday unless better options are presented....
