The Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 was dominate during the 1930s in virtually every class. Its Rootes supercharged, 2900 cc straight 8 with rear transaxle began as the "Corto" or short wheelbase open wheel grand prix racer and by 1937, the "Lungo" or long wheel base became a winning grand touring car in both spyder and berlinetta bodies. These were the 2900B variants. By that time, it had a steel tubular frame with aluminum bodies giving them the extra moniker of "Superleggera" or 'light weight' The apex predator was the 1938 8C 2900B Le Mans Speciale with its unique Touring built streamlined body.
As to the grand touring 8C 2900B Lungos, Franklin Mint made the '37 Spyder variant and White Box the Berlinetta. While the White Box is not quite up to the FM standards, they make a nice couple on the shelf worthy of their historical importance.
thanks Rich, I have the FM and the light blue Whitebox. Great Alfa post in 1/43 from HobbyDragon
Rich, those are absolutely stunning. Whitebox does really well on their models, especially for the price point. 😊💯😎
I agree Rich. Alfa was the McLaren equivalent in the 1930s. Another great photo essay here.
