For me, the 1st generation was an instant icon. It a blend of hard attitude with Buick luxury hidden in the interior. It certainly was the perfect ride for the intellectual bouncer, Patrick Swayze, in "Roadhouse". I have the set of these and, to be honest, green is not my favorite color.... although acceptable for the "Bullitt" Mustang. I was intrigued by this metallic green because of the way it flops from emerald to dark forest. The blue, black, gold and maroon all seemed better suited for the image, yet I find this color mildly mesmerizing in the sunlight. This is Automodello's Riviera Grand Sport.
I finally decided to get one of these back when they were issued, I chose the blue for the same reason Bob stated, I seem to remember a lot of them in that color. The model is ok, I am not thrilled with it so I am glad I only spent the money on the one.
@jcarnutzJust out of curiosity, what didn't you like about the model? I was just happy to have that image in 1/24 that I may have glossed over some issues.
To my eyes, it just doesn't look right-it stands too tall, or the tires are too big-which makes it appear that way or it is too narrow. I haven't taken the time to measure it, so as I said it could be me. It is another one that the chrome is lifting off.
I don't know why this is happening-as with the Galaxie (other than the white one) and the Eldorado-I don't have them displayed yet. They have been stored in their boxes since they arrived.
I've got the blue one also and I have the same problem with the chrome lifting, although it's only on one wheel arch. I think it's a beautiful model, but one thing that's always bothered me about it is the tail lights are reversed. The backup lights should be inboard, not outboard. I pulled the bumper and fixed mine by carefully drilling a small hole on the edge of each tail light and then pushing them out with a pin and swapping them out.

The front fender lines are sloping down more than the 1:1.
