The "Wide Track" Rolls.... [PIC]

Franklin Mint's first issue of their 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom l Cabriolet in tutone Blue/Black was a successful seller. So, around 2008 they re-released it in red with black chassis and top with white walls. Soon after the first run hit their big box stores, it was recalled with seemingly no reason given. Theories began to emerge over the reason for it with some just saying the white walls were something not available. I managed to get the error model from the store before they were ordered to throw them in the dumpster. A side-by-side comparison quickly revealed the problem. The first iteration had the Rolls iconic underslung look with the wheels well inside the fenders whereas the red reissue had a very aggressive stance with the wheels protruding slightly beyond the fenders. A side-by-side comparison revealed the addition of a spacer between the brake drum and the wheel painted red on both the front and rear wheels. I can't actually determine if these are separate parts or part of the wheels castings but for some reason, the vendor literally changed the whole look of the car. It seems that when the final preproduction model was sent for approval and this was missed, or, because it was just supposed to be just a repaint with white walls, the run was OK'd without any visual inspection. I'd love to know who ate the cost of this blunder or how it happened in the first place.
