Recalls are only done by the automotive industry for safety defects; nothing else. See my post...

Marlowe Johnson, as usual you are a voice of sound reason and logic. And sadly, I know you are likely right. We have not, and will not, be hurt physically by this cancer that those Pontiac's have.

But here is one thing I personally believe. I think FM did know about this problem with the defective metal and paint, and did nothing to correct it. The cars were very limited in production (550 of each car) and FM made the decision to let the inferior cars be sold with the known defects.

The real harm done is that they as a company have been able to get away with selling these cars when they full well knew they would likely have issues at some point down the road.

So, I (and others) will now watch our precious investment of $140, which for these collector toys is a substantial sum, fall apart.

Now here is the big question. How many other cars might we likely see this happen to at some point? Guess we're all fools for believing FM was a company that we could put our faith in.

It's a small miscarriage of justice in the big scheme of things, but it certainly shouldn't be something that FM should be able to just ignore and get away with.

Anyway, we move on. Or at least I will. My die-cast buying days are over. I will no longer put out any amount of money on future cars, all of which would likely be on the second hand market, as I can no longer have faith in either mint.

Thanks again Marlowe for you wisdom. You know I respect you very much.

thanks Marlowe for all that information. I'm here in Australia where we have strong consumer advocacy groups. Yes all your points about a legal action are clearly valid, so I now understand it wouldn't work. Pity, I really feel we have all been "dudded"!
