Does anyone remember the movie "THUNDER ROAD" from 1958, starring Robert Mitchum?
It's about the moonshiner makers and delivery drivers in the back woods back in the 50s, and I do highly recommend the movie if you haven't seen it...
I first seen the movie in 1960 at 6 years old and fell in love with it and the cars in it. I found this diecast of the 50 Ford and stripped the blue paint from it and repainted it as the 50 Ford that started out in the movie.
I did as much to it as I could to come as close to the 50 in the movie. I put a complete different tri-power 3 carb engine in it.
It came out pretty well for the back woods moonshine transporter car they featured in the movie. Even with a moonshine tank in the trunk.
All loaded and ready to deliver his load of moonshine
In the movie, he later switched to a 57 Ford.

It really looks good. Some of the film was shot, not far from here in east Tennessee, while most was filmed in the Ashville, N.C. area. The roots of moonshine running are still strong around these parts. That '57 brings back some great memories. My high school car was a perfect match, save for it being black & white instead of red & white!
@perrone1 I saw a video on you~tube where someone went back and filmed allot of the filming locations. It was very interesting.
Allot of my relatives back in the "hollars" of Kentucky were moonshiners back in the day. I remember an uncle having an old 40 Ford he delivered it in. I guess he crashed it running from the "revenewers"...LOL
It sat in a field all smashed up until it finally rusted away. We used to have a ball playing in it when we were all about 6-10 years old.
I bet your 57 Ford looked sweet back in the day. Black and white was a beautiful combo. That car is my all~time favorite automobile. Such great style and a pleasant looking front end. I loved how the hood opened backwards also, and the fins were perfect size as they flowed into the tail lights. Definitely a gorgeous machine...

I also LOVE the '57 Ford Fairlane HT; especially the tail end. I loved Thunder Road but was sickened when Mitchum totaled the '57. Lol.
what a fantastic, and successful project, thanks for sharing it.
Nice job on the recreation of the cars. Each year our local car club has movie night and last year this was the movie that was picked.
Those look great, love the movie AND the cars. Especially the '57 Ford. I was hoping the Mints would get around to the ht. and cv. Especially DM since FM had already done the Skyliner.
I haven't seen the movie. Your pictures and models make me want to check it out. The fifties had some great cars and I like to see them in action in movies.
The figure isn't quite the young Robert Mitchum but does look like Kowalski (Barry Newman) from "Vanishing Point". You need to pose him with the white Challenger R/T.
@rich-sufficool Yeah Rich, I figured since he had a glass of moonshine in his hand, he wouldn't mind filling in for Mr. Michum...LOL
Here's a few of Kowlski with that gorgeous 70 Dodge Challenger and that screamin', wicked 440...
Here's a quick video I took off the DVD. I love the sound of that 440 winding out.
