I'll always be grateful to CMC for turning me on to the classic German designs of the AutoUnion group, and Mercedes. The 1936 Horch 853 Sport Cabriolet was a luxury Autobahn cruiser powered by a 105hp 5.0 liter straight 8 offering mid-80s speed with a wallet taxing 11 mpg. With all the luxe appointments it was a fairly heavy car weighing in at almost 5800 lbs. CMC replicates all that sumptuous leather and wood trim as well as a realistic fabric top. The paint scheme and finish is as good as it gets.
Have the top up and sorry I never bought the top down version.
An amazing model, or at least it was. My green one has developed significant rash. My closed version in red has developed diecast-rot and has begun to disintegrate in many places. My open red version is or at least was, in excellent condition the last time I looked at it.

@jcarnutz John I had that problem with my Red/Burgandy top down version. It was in A-1 MINT perfect condition. It was packed away. Some 4-5 years later I took it out for a look and was horrified!! The left rear wheel was laying in the box, both doors didn’t close and were warped badly, the rear body section started to crack when I put my hands on it. The only still perfect part was the hood/bonnet. Even the top mechanism was cracked in 4-5 spots!!! I contacted CMC and sent pictures etc. they did offer me a replacement at I believe 1/2 retail but they wanted me to send my defect back.
To this day this all still annoys me! I shouldn’t have had to send back a model I paid 170 for to get a new one at reduced price. I regret telling them no I’m keeping
my defective model as I paid for it. Had they “given” me a replacement free I might not have minded
Richard I have the LE top up black/silver Horch and Burgandy top down version. Both are great and beautiful models. I bought my LE one from Bruno I believe in Australia second hand. It had minor rash in a few spots that I polished out to almost perfect. That was about 23 years ago! It hasn’t gotten much worse or degraded thank God. My replacement top down Horch which was obtained about 13-15 years ago is almost perfect aside from a slight spot showing rash on the drivers door. Thank God that one hasn’t suffered from the diecast rot like my original one!
@phil-r "Bruno from Australia".... that brings back memories. I bought a few CMCs from him too. The silver LE was courtesy of Jay Olins who managed to secure a case of them direct.
I'm shocked to hear about all the problems with the metal and paint on these models. I guess I got lucky. (Knock on wood!)
sorry to hear about the issues with these models. You've described an appalling example of service Phil. Clearly it was CMCs manufacturing process that caused the problems.
There is a couple of much rarer color examples of the Mercedes and I think the Horsh? A blue and yellow Merc and silver and black Horsh.
