My purchase from China arrived a couple of days ago. It arrived faster than I expected, probably because it didn't ship from China, but from Inglewood, California!
Ironically I used to work around the block from the shipping address back in the '70's. This model is made by White Box. I'm not sure what year it is, but I would guess 1974. It's the Japanese Domestic Market, Right Hand Drive model. The Celica GT Liftback wasn't imported into the U.S. until 1976 as a companion model to the ST and GT coupes, and then it had the federally mandated 5 mile per hour bumpers. The taillights were also changed for the U.S. market.
And here's the model. Doors open, hood and hatch are fixed. Enjoy!
Here's the interior flipped to look like LHD:
WOW; that Celica is sharp! Profoundly detailed and in a great color!
Looks like a great model. I remember these all over the place when I was teenager. I always thought they were interesting.

Love the model Pete. Looks like I have to add this to my collection.
Great score Pete. I remember seeing this in droves around here as well. Now rarely seen.
Thank you, Gents! I've been discovering some of these cool sixties and seventies subcompacts that I remember from high school/college days by looking at White Box, IXO, Salvat, Jumajo etc on eBay, mainly available in Europe. Here's my subcompacts so far.
They're reasonably priced, in the $50 range and they display just fine with the Mints. Some that I'm interested in, among others:
The R16 is an odd one. As seniors in high school, a buddy and I used to go to car dealerships and look at cars we planned to buy. One evening we went to the local Chrysler-Plymouth Dealer as I, at the time, was interested in the 1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring. He wandered into the used car lot and found a strange and quirky-looking FWD 1969 Renault 16. The next thing I knew we were with a salesman going for a test drive. He was 18 so he could legally enter into a contract and purchased it. "Really???! It's so....UGLY!" However, I will say that it drove very smoothly and had a very compliant suspension. I followed him home in his mother's car. You can imagine what his parents had to say!

They're great aren't they Pete, all up I have about 50 of them, European, British and Japanese.
I do remember sitting on one of the Renault 16s. Cannot recall the circumstances as you do, but I do remember how plush and comfortable the seats were.
